“THE SOFT LANDING”
by

GIALT LEMMENS

"The Soft Landing" is structured as a three dimensional collage, in an unstable balance gravity. As in all author´s body of work, humor travels across the piece, a seemingly light or gentle humor that hides a few doses of cruelty and nihilistic contemporary criticism. Lemmens fragmentation works with physical and bodily, but also conceptual and semantics, which explains his particular passion for collage. Appreciates it immediacy and low cost, and extols the possibility of bringing him across the contradiction as an accurate definition of reality and of itself. In his hands, becomes a way to reach a level of continuous surprise, which renders him to get bored of his own speech and, similarly, generating a sort of reinvention or rediscovery of himself, what modulates it and what surrounds it. In his own words: "Let this project becomes an opportunity to see where problems arise, how to negotiate with the circumstances and ensure that they are resolved."

Gialt Lemmens (1966, Heerlen, Netherlands) was formed first as an actor, and in a sense, but jaded abandoned his dramatic studies, still identified as a clown. It was subsequently formed in the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht, specializing in sculpture. Since 1995 exposed regularly in his country, in museums such as Bonnenfanten in Maastricht and contemporary art centers such as Heda, Stroom in The Hague or TENT in Rotterdam. Currently preparing a public sculpture for the city of Meersen. Since 2007, lives and works in Madrid.
